What is Batch Generation?

Definition

Rendering many design variants in one job or run, usually from a spreadsheet or list of payloads, rather than creating each image manually.

Batch generation is the workhorse pattern behind certificates, catalogs, localized ads, and seasonal campaigns.

Batch vs real-time:

  • Batch: hundreds of rows processed on a schedule or on-demand dump
  • Real-time: one API call when a user action or webhook fires

Typical batch pipeline:

  1. Spreadsheet or CSV of variant data
  2. One approved template
  3. A generator (Canva Bulk Create, or an API like Layerre)
  4. Zip/Drive/CDN delivery of outputs

Where Bulk Create stops:

Canva Bulk Create is a manual batch tool. Recurring batches from live Google Sheets need Zapier/Make/n8n or an API loop. See bulk image generation from spreadsheets and batch vs Bulk Create limits.
