How do you use Zapier with Canva design automation?
Create a Zap that triggers on new data (new row, new order, form submission), then use the Layerre action to generate a Canva-based design variant and send the result to your destination app.
Zapier connects 8,000+ apps and lets you automate workflows called "Zaps." Combined with Layerre, you can generate Canva design variants automatically whenever new data arrives.
Setting up a Zap:
1. Choose your trigger
Common triggers for design automation:
- Google Sheets → New Spreadsheet Row
- Google Forms → New Form Response
- Shopify → New Order
- Typeform → New Entry
- HubSpot → New Contact
- Airtable → New Record
- Webhook → Catch Hook (for custom integrations)
2. Add the Layerre action
- Select "Layerre" as the action app
- Choose "Create Variant" as the action
- Select your template (imported from Canva)
- Map the trigger fields to your template layers
3. Add an output action
- Google Drive → Upload File
- Gmail → Send Email (with image attached)
- Slack → Send Channel Message (with image)
- Dropbox → Upload File
Example Zaps:
Event registration → certificate
Google Forms (new response) → Layerre (generate certificate) → Gmail (send certificate to attendee)
New blog post → social image
WordPress (new post) → Layerre (generate OG image with post title) → Buffer (schedule social post with image)
New e-commerce product → catalog card
Shopify (new product) → Layerre (generate product card) → Google Drive (save to product images folder)
Tips:
- Use Zapier Formatter to clean up data before passing to Layerre
- Multi-step Zaps let you generate multiple formats from one trigger
- Use Zapier Filter to only generate images for specific conditions
- Zapier Paths let you route to different templates based on data values
